Business Analyst

Position summary:

The Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for performing the analysis and documentation of unique client requests which do not directly translate to standard application functionality. In this role, the BA will support the department by ensuring that requirements are well understood, clearly documented, and communicated to the key stakeholders.  The ideal candidate will enjoy working with both technical staff and client hospitals on projects.

Position description:

  • Identify and stratify opportunity areas for clients, and conduct research to help determine root causes as well as the best course of action to improve quality and/or profitability
  • Analyzes and problem solves issues with current and planned systems as they relate to the integration and management of patient data
  • Analyze reports of data duplicates or other errors to provide ongoing appropriate inter-departmental communication and monthly or daily data reports
  • Monitor for timely and accurate completion of select data
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • In collaboration with others, develop and maintain databases and data systems necessary for projects and department functions
  • Acquire and abstract primary or secondary data from existing internal or external data sources
  • In collaboration with others, develop and implement data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
  • Execute on functional and analytic assessment and project requirements:
    • Conduct quantitative and qualitative interviews
    • Perform departmental shadowing and observations
    • Perform process and data analysis
    • Provide guidance for establishing process, staffing, and system improvements
  • Create and maintain consulting and analytic standards, considerations, methodologies, and controls
  • In collaboration with others, interpret data and develop recommendations based on findings.
  • Develop graphs, reports, and presentations of project results
  • Perform basic statistical analyses for projects and reports
  • Generate routine and ad hoc reports

Qualifications / requirements:

  • Bachelor’s in business, economics, information management, healthcare information, computing, mathematics, statistics, or equivalent combination of related experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in a data analyst role
  • Healthcare background or experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and generate complex process flows for assigned projects
  • Candidate should be able to explain their role in the success of past projects
  • Experience with SQL is preferred
  • Possess strong Excel skills
  • Aptitude for rapidly acquiring process improvement and subject matter expertise
  • Basic understanding of healthcare supply chain, clinical operations and revenue cycle preferred
  • Fast learner, able to understand new products/features and business objectives quickly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of staff, clients and the public
  • Adept at building productive cross-departmental relationships
  • Ability to work with minimal daily supervision
  • Willingness to be part of a team-unit and cooperate in the accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives
  • Energetic, motivated individual with a desire to succeed
  • Strong research capabilities
  • Attention to detail and editing skills
  • Efficient and timely execution of projects
  • Superior organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • This position requires up to 25% travel outside the local area and overnight
