Sentry Data Systems helps Boston Medical Center achieve 280% ROI in 30 days

Sentry Data Systems, Inc. announced today that Boston Medical Center (BMC), the largest safety net hospital and busiest trauma and emergency services center in New England, has selected Sentry’s Patient Data Intelligence Platform (PDIP) to advance its data analytics capabilities to reduce total cost of care, improve quality and deliver better patient outcomes.

Travis Leonardi, CEO at Sentry Data Systems, commented, “We’ve constructed a revolutionary longitudinal patient data set that applies proprietary, real-world data to provide real-world evidence to flatten the cost curve and improve quality of care. Our clients’ successes are unprecedented, and our unique patient data intelligence platform is helping to drive improvements across the continuum of healthcare.”

BMC selected Sentry’s analytics platform to examine their pharmacy billing practices and identify opportunities to lower costs, capture additional revenue, manage utilization and improve quality. Within the first 30 days of implementation, BMC, in collaboration with Sentry’s consulting team, identified a variety of revenue opportunities as a result of an in-depth analysis of the billing processes of high-cost and high-volume drugs.

According to David Twitchell, BMC’s Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer, “We worried a significant percent of our billable events were either not charged or charged in a suboptimal way, resulting in lost revenue. This lack of transparency into our billing practices was contributing to a revenue model that was unsustainable. At BMC, every dollar counts to support our mission.”

BMC is also looking to utilize Sentry’s analytics platform to tackle its readmissions dilemma. Twitchell commented, “Since CMS introduced its Readmission Reduction Program, we’ve implemented several innovative and very successful programs to address our readmission rate. We’re excited to partner with Sentry Data Systems to further our commitment to keeping patients healthy and out of the hospital. We believe their longitudinal patient database with near real-time capabilities will uncover the real-world insights we’ve been seeking. The fact that this database aggregates clinical and claims data as well as detailed pharmacy data is unique, and we believe is the missing link to help us solve the readmissions challenge.”

“Achieving a 280 percent ROI is just the tip of the iceberg for BMC,” remarked Twitchell. “We’re excited to apply this solution to many additional areas of our organization and are confident the results will be commensurate to — or even better than — those we discovered through our initial pilot. Sentry’s value proposition is clear…the money you invest, you get back multiple times — and you get it back quickly, which I think is a very strong selling point.”
