Database Administrator

Position summary

This individual will be part of a team responsible for supporting our production and development Oracle and MS SQL databases running on premise and in the cloud, investigating and troubleshooting potential problems and supporting development teams. The Database Administrator (DBA) participates in implementing and maintaining database design, monitoring application database performance and supporting Sentry’s 24×7 operations. The DBA also consults with development teams on application and database performance tuning. The candidate will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals as well as performing a variety of complicated tasks while providing consultation on complex projects.

Qualifications / requirements

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in area of specialty or equivalent combination of related experience
  • At least 7+ years of experience in the field or related area
  • Must be proficient with Oracle. MS SQL and other mainstream databases
  • Database tuning and performance monitoring
  • Application (SQL, PL/SQL) performance tuning
  • Experience working with VLDB (Very Large Databases)
  • Experience in Oracle Golden Gate, Oracle Active Data Guard, OEM Grid Control, Oracle RAC and MS SQL Tools and Utilities
  • Experience in migrating, upgrading and patching databases
  • Must be proficient in database concepts and various system types (OLTP, data mart, etc.)
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and Windows environments
  • Must be comfortable in writing & maintaining shell scripts for automation, monitoring and notification
  • Experience using vim/ed or other Linux editors regularly
  • Experience using Git, SVN, CVS or other version control system (pull, push, commit, branches etc.)
  • Understanding of object-oriented principals and design
  • Ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with all levels of staff, hospital clients and the public
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work with minimum/no supervision
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written communications
  • Willingness to be a part of a team-unit and cooperate in the accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives
  • Comfortable facilitating and being involved in discussions between different technical groups.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Oracle Exadata (On-Prem) or Exadata CC (Cloud-at-Customer)
  • Experience in Perl, Python, Ruby languages
  • Experience using Confluence / SharePoint (or other documentation library)
  • Experience in Virtual copy technologies such as Actifo or Delphix
  • Experience with Oracle RAT (real application testing) and data modeling
  • Experience with ODI, Informatica or Postgres
